Content Warning: This episode includes discussion about relationship breakdown and domestic violence.
In this episode, Helen chats with Becca Maxwell.
Becca Maxwell is on a mission to change the narrative around divorce and separation. She is incredibly accomplished - a consultant, a coach and mentor. She’s also the founder of the Do Divorce Right online business and podcast.
Becca has experienced divorce twice, the second time drawing out over a number of years, involving a lengthy court case, financial troubles and custody challenges.
It’s a testament to her resilience and strength of character that she “came out the other side of this challenge with greater financial stability, a fantastic partner, a beautiful blended family and a life that she loves”... all without stooping to dirty tactics throughout the process.
She’s built her business on creating a safe space and community for women to support each other through often trying situations, to be surrounded by cheerleaders, and to find the inner strength they need to keep going when things feel tough.
In this conversation, Becca talks candidly about the experiences of her own relationship breakdowns and how having come out the other side stronger, she’s on a mission to help others rewrite their separation stories more positively.
Highlights:
- One step at a time: Becca explains the steps she took to move through the physical, financial and emotional “stuckness” of her first marriage.
- The obstacles of “happily ever after”: The stories, beliefs and expectations that get in your way and keep you stuck are often not as difficult to work through as you expect.
- Breaking the stigma around divorce: How her own experiences led Becca to become an advocate for challenging the messaging around divorce and separation.
- Models of positive divorce: Showcasing examples of where divorce and separation has led to positive and meaningful change for the individuals involved.
- Self-care as a priority: Remembering to prioritise moments for taking care of yourself when you’re working through big life challenges (like divorce).
